You are ready to start shooting raw if you have a DSLR or CSC or a compact camera that can shoot raw (not all compacts can). In other words, you are ready to produce better quality pictures.

Adobe Camera Raw 8.6 available

Camera Raw pluginAdobe released the next version of Adobe Camera Raw – 8.6 – for Photoshop CC and CS6.

One of the big enhancements in this new version of Camera Raw is improvement in performance when batch processing images, both through the Save button in Camera Raw and when converting images to DNG in the DNG Converter.

As you are probably aware, updates to Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CS6 only include bug fixes, new camera support and lens profile support. Any new features will be available for Camera Raw 8 for Photoshop CC only.

Switching to Lightroom for Aperture Users

For quite some time now, there has been quite a lot of speculation of whether Apple will keep development of Aperture.

Recently, Aperture development seemed to be stagnant and at the same time Adobe kept adding more and more new features into Lightroom making it into a powerful application for photographers.

Raw Shooting coming to Android L

Google are updating their mobile operating system – Android – and finally they’re taking it to version 5 named Android L, apparently.

Probably one of the biggest new features, to photographers at least (if we can talk about photographers using mobile devices for photography…), is the addition of Raw shooting to Android. Android L will allow for raw shooting in DNG format.

Apple stops developing Aperture

Apple announced that it’s stopping development of their Lightroom-equivalent for photographers – Aperture.

Apple are introducing Photos application to their next version of Mac OS X, which together with iCloud Photo will enable users to store their images in the iCloud and access them in Photos application from wherever they are.

This might be great news for Adobe as now many Aperture users might move to Lightroom.

Adobe announces Creative Cloud 2014

Last week Adobe published a teaser of what’s coming to Creative Cloud – a sneek peak preview of a new feature in Photoshop CC.

As well as adding a new feature – Focus Masks – that we already know about, today’s official announcement brings a host of mostly minor new features including new blur effects, updates to content aware fill, and improvements to tools like smart guides.

Since the digital era started, Fuji hasn’t played any major role. All focus was on Canon and Nikon…. and now Samsung and Sony. But Fuji found their own place in the digital era of photography with their digital compacts and now with their X-series.

Adobe made Camera Raw 8.5 Release Candidate available as a download from Adobe Labs.

In this update, Adobe added support for a few new cameras as usual:

  • Nikon 1 J4
  • Nikon 1 V3
  • Olympus OM-D E-M10
  • Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH4
